BOMU clarifies international artist controversy

BOMU clarifies international artist controversy

Recently, Jehovah gave me another opportunity to go to the radio and air my views and at the same time clarify a few misunderstandings regarding something related to this infant industry we are hoping one day will benefit our great grandchildren.

After the announcement that an international artist was going to come and perform at the upcoming BOMU awards, there was an uproar as artists felt an international artist could not come and perform at awards that were meant to honour Botswana artists.

Just like Beyonce could not come at a price of 17 million for 3 hours. It seemed like an injustice from afar.

Pagson Ntsie, BOMU communications manager, however, clarified the issue. According to him the Chinese embassy had approached the union asking if they could be a part of the awards as a way to have a cultural exchange between the two countries. The embassy had offered to bring a Chinese artist at their own expense and then whoever wins the Best Male and Best Female BOMU award would then get sponsored by the embassy to go to China and experience their entertainment industry.

Ntsie said that the union had to withdraw from the partnership as the people they represented were not happy.

“We are a union for artists and we listen to what they have to say. That is why we have established the ten district chapters around the country.”

If I were in the executive committee I would have disregarded the artists’ lament in this instance. I would have put my foot down because from where I stand it would have benefitted the artists in the end. But then again I have concluded that, it is the reason why I should never be president. People would cry for Hitler to be resurrected and become their president. There will be no mangamanga but of course there will be no 45% alcohol levy. You should vote for me in 2050.
