A lot has been said about rapper ATI, real name Atlasaone Molemogi Bathobame, concerning his religion. Rumours are rife that he is a Satanist, something he vehemently denies and which he hopes to clarify with his latest offering, an album called Polao Ya Motho, loosely translated as The Killing Of A Human Being. At first sight one would think that the name of the album only seals the deal on what is already a fact—-that he is a Satanist, but that is not the case, according to the rapper. ATI says that unlike what one would conclude after hearing the title, his album talks about his love for God, as there is one song in it that says, “Modimo ke wa rona rotlhe, le mo ntimelang” loosely translated as “God is for us all, why do you want to keep him away from me?”
Asked how he thinks the nation will react to the title of the album considering the already rife rumours that he worships the devil, he said that people are questioning him only because he is his own person and he is not conforming to the norm, and unlike what many would have done, he did not rush to correct himself when people starting talking about him in a negative way. He further said that Polao Ya Motho will give a further explanation of where he truly falls, which is on the bosom of God.
Answering the question of how he reacts to the accusations that he prefers the kingdom of darkness he said that he does not react at all but he keeps praising the Lord who still keeps him fit and able to outlive the accusations. “The truth will come out in the end,” the youngster said.
The talented rapper emotionally and passionately talked about how the album will bring awareness to a lot of issues affecting a lot of people in this world. “The title of the album is a symbolic term. It symbolizes the negativity that Batswana give each other. Have you ever heard of the term, Dead Men Walking? You will find that there are a lot of unhappy people in life,” ATI said.
Moving on to more positive things, the rapper excitedly talked about what a jam packed album it is going to be as he spent the whole year working on it. He said that there will be fifteen songs—-his very best.
“I have been releasing mix-tapes, and I must say that the songs on the mix-tapes are not album material but I think I finally came up with songs that I feel will be great for the album. I have worked with the best producers on this album amongst them Risq, Karli Beatz, Rimzy, T.R Hits, Phoenix and Dublin,” he said.
He said that his first single, “Ke le Khete,” a term which is used largely to describe hip hop heads who wear baggy jeans but who have recently moved to dressing in stylish skinny jeans that only go up to a place just below the waste, will be released on the 1st of June. He said that with the song he is hoping to promote a culture that has been shunned and rejected by Batswana. ATI also added that what he is doing is no different from what other artists like Vee have already done, that is the motion to create HIV/AIDS awareness, a well mannered youth through his art. He just said that he is probably just being judged because he is doing everything in a new way. A way that he admits might work or might not work.
